In what could be a very smart move, Samsung has chosen to join their Bada mobile operating system with another. The second mobile operating system is called Tizen and is based on Linux, just like Bada. Read on to find out more on this platform shakeup here in this quick article.
Free Is Good, Especially If It Has To Do With Smartphones
The word “free” seems to be taking both the internet and the mobile revolution to higher levels. The Linux platform has become much more popular than in recent years. Now, no less than five mobile operating systems are created with Linux as their foundation. The most popular at the moment is Android, which has been used by Samsung extensively to become one of the most popular smartphone brands in the world. The ride was a quick one to the top, since Nokia took a nose dive in market share.
Bada Was Not On The Radar Until Now
It was the well-informed analysts who were paying attention to the Samsung Bada platform. It has had a modest growth, even displacing the Windows Phone mobile operating system from Microsoft. It will be boosted by work from Intel, the famous chip maker, who revealed they had been working on some heavy duty processors last week. The Bada mobile operating system will be joined and mixed with Tizen. Tizen has its roots in the open source Linux operating system. If it seems that Linux has had a hand in all these systems, it is no coincidence. Intel had been working on their own Linux-based “Moblin” mobile operating system before Nokia lost their footing.
Changes Prevail And Samsung Is Thinking Of Leaving Android
The failure of Nokia left Intel with little choice but to look for another partner. Samsung was the perfect choice. A quick look at the negative side of Android will show that Microsoft is creating a licensing fee empire because of a perceived patent dispute between themselves and Google, the creator of Android. At the moment Microsoft makes $5 dollars for every HTC smartphone sold that uses Android. They also have used patents to make Samsung pay an undisclosed sum for every Android smartphone they sell. This makes it very attractive for Samsung to go ahead and dump Android for this new Bada-Tizen mobile operating system.
Getting Out From Under The Thumb Of Microsoft
People are already excited about the new deal between Intel and Samsung with their new quest for freedom from Microsoft rule. The unofficial word is that Microsoft makes $15 dollars for every sale of a Samsung Android smartphone. At this rate, Microsoft is probably making more off of penalizing other platforms than it does on its own unpopular platform, Windows Phone 7. Tizen will not be exactly like other mobile operating systems, it will be bringing in more HTML5 technology than its counterparts. It is assumed that it will be able to run Android apps as well.
